Hello everyone! Today, I want to show you how to make homemade curry powder.
Recently, I’ve been sharing recipes for cooking spices. I started with ground pepper, then ginger, and paprika. The curry powder is very common in most Nigerian homes, and can be added to almost all our Nigerian dishes. Now, you can always buy from the market, but if you love making things from scratch, or just curious about how to make your own curry powder, then this is the perfect time to give it a try.
How did I start making my own curry powder? One day I ran out of it while cooking, out of desperation I decided to read out the list of ingredients and was shocked to discover that they were all basic spices (except for a few that I couldn’t pronounce). I then bought my own spices and to my amazement it turned out even better than the store bought curry powder. If you try this, I assure you you’ll never again want to buy from the stores or market.
Ingredients for homemade curry powder
- 3 tbspn tumeric
- 2 tbspn ground pepper
- 1 tbspn each of coriander, fenugreek, fennel, cumin, cloves, black pepper, garlic powder, and salt
Grind all ingredients together, and store in an airtight container.
Use this spice mix to make curry sauce, or any of your favorite dishes. What is even more interesting about this curry powder is that you can make changes to suit your cooking; add more or less of any of these spices. Take out any of the spices you do not like, or add others and take your cooking to a whole new level.
So, I hope this has convinced you to get up and give your cooking a new twist?! Try making your curry powder today, and let me know how it turned out. Also, I know there are so many other spices that can be added, so if you’ve tried this before, let me know what spices you used that are different from mine. Kindly leave me a comment below.
